Our goal is to create peace within West Papua. Majority of Americans do not realize the dire situation in the region because West Papua is deemed a "no journalism" zone by the Indonesian government, locking out all journalists and media from the region. We want this ban lifted with the hopes that it will bring more government accountability and peace to the region. The U.S. Department of State, UN investigators and human rights organizations have documented threats to freedom of expression and dire prison conditions in the Indonesian provinces of West Papua and Papua. The government of Indonesia must demonstrate its commitment to freedom of expression by releasing people convicted for peacefully expressing their political views, improving prison conditions, and allowing Red Cross access.
