Income inequality is a major issue facing America today and poses the biggest threat to the global community, according to the World Economic Forum (see: New York Times Jan 26, 2014). To be effective and fair, income inequality needs to be addressed at both ends of the income spectrum. Measures proposed to increase the minimum wage address income inequality from the bottom of the income scale. Measures must also be taken to address income inequality from the top of the income scale. Executive stock options are the single most effective means by which executive have been able to enrich themselves at the expense of others and at the expense of the economy. Studies have shown that stock options have induced the wrong results for the US economy while enriching the 1% at the expense of the 99%
