I believe in capitalism and the free market, but I also believe that textbooks do not operate in a free market. Students are required to by specific books and course material with the only choices being new, used or e-book. According to "Rip-off 101", a report by professors and students, the average shelf life of a textbook before a new edition is released is 3.5 years. New editions often do nothing more than rearrange the same information. This market practice allows publishers to push the cheaper used books out of the market forcing students to buy the "new" more expensive book.
If you are a student or have a student in your family you know all to well the cost of college and textbooks. Please help by signing this petition to send the message that WE ARE TIRED OF BEING EXPLOITED.
