The situation in terms Universities dealing with Sexual Assault is very bleak. Last year a sexual assault was carried out by a student , in which he switched her drink to a stronger variant and when intoxicated, raped her. According to Stony Brook University's Policy, as per my understanding, the victim was made to act as her own lawyer. She was to sit next to her rapist with only a temporary wall dividing the space between them. She was, from the start of her ordeal to the end of her "Hearing", made to feel as if she had done something wrong. The administration did not take the case as seriously as it should have and the accused was cleared. This story is only one of many that occurs throughout our nation. The government needs to pass new legislation to finally deal with the situation.
