Instead of trying at every opportunity to usurp the 2nd amendment of EVERY American citizen to keep and bear arms for protection against even the government should it become tyrannical as stated in the constitution, try getting to the heart of the matter and address the mental health issues that are the root cause of these tragedies. Sick people kill people, guns do not and neither do law abiding gun owners. If one is caught with a stolen firearm it should be a mandatory 5 year sentence. If it is used in a violent crime it should be either the death penalty or life without a chance for parole as the firearm was stolen with the intent to use it illegally. In conjunction, any parent that leaves a firearm where a child can get hold of it should carry a mandatory 5 year jail sentence
