In America, 1 in 5 women and 1 in 71 men have been a victim of rape in their lifetimes. As rape culture is prevalent in our society because of normalizing or excusing rape, the safety and rights of victims are often disregarded. The current sexual education system tends to preach only abstinence to students rather than safe sex, and also lacks information on consent. Educating students about consent in sexual education classes will help eliminate the presence of rape culture in our country.
