The assessment process of refugees in the UNHCR’s charge in Turkey is becoming increasingly drawn out. The whole process of resettlement takes 3 to10 years and the only response of the UNHCR is that there are vast numbers of refugees and lack of officers to evaluate their cases.
Refugees in Turkey are provided no right for education, no permission for work and no health care support. They have also been completely let down by the UNHCR. The circumstances are unbearable and They have no option but risking their lives by crossing the Mediterranean Sea using small boats. The current human right crisis is a result of the malfunction of the UNHCR.
We demand the US authorities to enforce the UNHCR of Turkey to take action in order to accelerate the refugees’ assessment and resettlement process.
