Chaos and violence in North Africa and the Middle East has created the largest refugee migration since World War II. The Mediterranean Sea has become a killing field for Refugee families fleeing these dangers. Over 3,500 Refugees died in the Mediterranean in 2014. 75% Of all border crossing deaths are in the Mediterranean. Italy our strong and active transatlantic partner stands alone rendering aid to highly endangered refugees on the high seas. As a world leader the United States has an important role to highlight visibility of this crisis and to marshal foreign governments to assist Italy with the immediate catastrophe as well as developing a long term solution to this refugee crisis.
