Address Russia's abusive laws against LGBT rights and free expression, and the "spirit" of the Olympics.

Created by A.C. on August 05, 2013

Russia's abusive laws against LGBT rights and freedom of expression regarding LGBT rights are an offense and a threat to Human Rights everywhere.

In 2011, President Obama released an official Presidential Memorandum which states "By this memorandum I am directing all agencies engaged abroad to ensure that U.S. diplomacy and foreign assistance promote and protect the human rights of LGBT persons."

With the upcoming Winter Olympics to be held in Russia, we ask that President Obama stand by his own memorandum and make a statement regarding these human rights abuses in Russia, which are in clear violation of the Olympic motto:

"Build a better world by promoting the Olympic Truce and using sport to forge friendship among the athletes, young people and communities."
