Dihydrogen Monoxide, or DHMO, is a colorless, odorless liquid chemical used heavily in agricultural and industrial settings and as a performance enhancer by athletes in all of the major U.S. sports. It is also referred to as dihydrogen oxide, hydric acid, and hydronium hydroxide.
The components of DHMO are found in many caustic and dangerous compounds, such as sulfuric acid and nitroglycerine.
Uses for DHMO include:
- athletic performance enhancer
- the production of chemical and biological weaponry
- industrial solvent
- spray-on fire suppressant
- in swimming pools to maintain pH balance
- for sanitation in daycare centers
- in pesticide production
- as a food additive
