Earlier this week, Target came under fire for blatantly photoshopping a model's "thigh gap" in an ad for a junior's swimsuit. Women, girls, and people in general are tired of being bombarded with unrealistic images of altered bodies and faces. Research has shown that young people compare themselves to images in media and most have indicated that they feel worse about themselves after viewing such images.
In addition to body alterations, publications including Vogue and Marie Claire have been scrutinized for their use of image editing technology to lighten or darken skin color on models and celebrities, further alienating women of color.
We the people call for the rampant use of edited imagery to be addressed, reduced, and for these images to be labeled as altered when they appear.
