At the 2012 Democratic National Convention, there was an amendment to the Democratic platform introduced to the delegates. This amendment would introduce a reference to Jerusalem being the capital of Israel, as well as insert the word "God" into the platform.
Passage of this amendment required a 2/3 majority of the delegates present, and this was voted on with a voice vote. The vote was attempted three times by the convention chairman. These three times were necessary, because each vote was very clearly *not* a 2/3 majority in the affirmative, sounding much closer to half. After the third vote, the chairman declared the motion passed, obviously against the wishes of the convention.
On his political party's behalf, the President must address this assault on his supporters' voices.
