The current US observance of Daylight Savings Time, leaves only 4 months of "regular" time. During the months of October and March, there are many locales across the country where school children have to be at the bus stops or walking to school in darkness because of the lateness of sunrise. Also, because of the lower numbers of daylight hours during these months getting up earlier does not save energy. More energy is needed to light and heat homes, workplaces, cars, and buses to accommodate an earlier start. Daylight Savings Time makes more sense in the Spring and Summer when there are greater hours of daylight to work with. It should not extend into the Fall and Winter when cool dark mornings require more energy and add a period of darkness where kids are less safe on our roads.
