About 50 to 75 percent of convicted drunk drivers continue to drive on a suspended license (madd.org). This goes to show that society disregards the driving laws and penalties that are currently in place. Therefore, the punishment for defying the laws must be more stringent and gain attention in order to restrict the accidents prompted by drunk driving. For example, the penalty for driving with a suspended license in Florida can result in 60 days of jail time and a measly fine of $500. Since this does not stop drivers to violate the law, the jail time and fees should be increased. By creating stricter laws, the roads would be a safer place for both the drivers and the pedestrians.
