Since the early 1960's, the United States has attempted to stamp out the use of illegal substances through prosecution and spending billions in attempts to stop the flow of drugs into the United States. Like prohibition the attempt to stem the flow has failed and instead has strengthened the illegal activities of cartels and forced the topic into the underworld. Through the best intentions of the education system children are taught about the negative effects of drugs yet the lifestyle of many drugs are still glamorized by Hollywood.
It is time that the United States admits the war on drugs failed. To commit to investigate methods to identify better ways to educated and treat individuals with drug problems, and to place regulations on the use of drugs that allows for a better outcome
