The DOTTIE MARTIN PLEDGE for Congress (as reported in The Charlotte Observer Dec 4, 2012, page 8A)
First, I pledge that I will do what’s best for the country, not necessarily what is best for my district and for me politically.
Second, I will support a compromise that has both revenues and spending reductions.
Third, I’ll try to support something that is close to the Simpson-Bowles package, if I can.
And fourth, that this supersedes all other pledges except the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag of the United States and to the Republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.
