Sexting occurs when people send sexually explicit photos or messages to others using their cell phones. Sexually explicit materials aimed specifically at underage persons should be illegal. Many states have some kind of sexting laws, but they differ too widely to be of any real protection. A federal sexting law should target adults as well as teens who either transmit or possess nude or obscene photos of either themselves or any underage person. Said law should prohibit both sending and receiving of explicit images but since it isn't really possible to prevent someone from sending you a photo, this law should prohibit the keeping or forwarding of any explicit images. Under this law even teens who send pictures of themselves to adults can face charges.
