Birthright citizenship (Jus soli) is not in our best interest. The children of illegal immigrants born in the US should not receive citizenship. Their path to citizenship should bound by the laws requiring foreign nationals to apply for citizenship (Jus sanguinis).
As for legal immigrants having a child in the US the policy should be to allow their US born children citizenship after 10 years of US residence.
