Adopting the metric system nationwide will better prepare Americans for interaction with their foreign counterparts and ensure understanding in the sciences. This standardized system is arguably easier to learn and reduces the likelihood of miscommunication (a modern example of this is the initial failure of the Hubble Space Telescope due to one set of measurements done in metric while others read them as standard). Americans are lagging in the math, science, and technology communities and standardizing to the metric system will only help to remove barriers that hinder us from advancing.
