In the country that invented the LED, where everyone from toddlers to centenarians have been exposed to these highly efficient light sources, we have failed to recognize the savings the adaptation of them would have on our economy, as well as our environment.
LEDs(light emitting diodes) utilize a fraction of the wattage standard bulbs do, and in states where sunlight is abundant, they can be coupled with solar panels and battery storage to produce sufficient lighting to supplant the use for CFLs and incandescents.
With the proper Federal encouragement and incentives like rebates, and low income subsidies, American entrepreneurs will enter the manufacturing and retrofitting businesses. A National approach is needed to bring about rapid conversion.
