as automotive technology advances auto makers are engineering in technical obstructions which are not necessary to the function but rather serve as a means to prevent anyone except their dealerships from being able to service and repair vehicle systems . This policy is detrimental to the economy , the vehicle owner , the steps the EPA have taken to limit emissions , and in many cases create situations where unsafe operating conditions needlessly exist .There are some import vehicles sold in the U.S. that cannot even have the battery replaced without needing reprogrammed or steering and stability are adversely affected, not to mention these hazards are not made clear to the vehicle owner without access to technical repair information .
