Human rights were defined for a modern society nearly sixty-five years ago by a fragile fledgling United Nations and a remarkable First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt. Together, with her leading the way as chair of the Commission on Human Rights, representatives from 48 different countries finally signed a document that defined the quality of life that should be inherent to all human beings around the globe, but isn't. The meaning of the message was so basic and so powerful, but the words fell empty. With no action behind them, they mean nothing. The most basic human rights are violated everyday. A precedent must be set to change this. Human rights should be recognized and incorporated into modern legislation of the 21st century. It's never too late to change the status quo.
