Many of the advances in the Auto Industry came about via the intense competition within professorial racing such as NASCAR. The government should partner with industry with funding to establish and support an GREEN racing series such as an all electric NASCAR, ie NASCAR-EV. No doubt by today's standards the initial cars and racing would not be up to the thrills and excitement that the normal NASCAR fan is used to experiencing. But then again, the race cars from the early 1900's would compare poorly against today's cars.
