While the exact cause of the tragic sinking accident of Sewol Ferry is yet to be investigated, the close to 300 casualties are known to be resulted from possible ship defects, improper maneuvering and the captain and crew’s inability to evacuate passengers. While the direct responsibility of the accident goes to the crew and the company who operates the ferry, the media is abnormally focusing on the shareholders of the company who have no direct involvement in the day-to-day operations of the ferry, and authorities launched an unprecedented investigation, directing the public anger and attention away from the S. Korean naval police, the national disaster control and government authorities. We ask that the investigation to be focused on the matters directly related to the accident.
