Advocate for proportional representation in the US House of Representatives to end the scourge of gerrymandering.

Created by G.G. on October 17, 2013

The recent government shutdown has illustrated the need for serious reform in how members are elected to the house of representatives. Gerrymandering has allowed members from both sides to feel secure in their seats and stubbornly defend ideological positions. They will feel no repercussions for these actions. The American people are disenfranchised as they can't hold their elected officials accountable. It is time to move to proportional representation in the house, by which seats are divided between parties by the proportion of votes they receive in an election (either by state or nationally). In this way, the American people will have direct power to hold political parties and house members accountable. Every two years would be a true referendum on the party in power.
