Affirm an Individuals Right to Choose Personal Liberty over Personal Safety

Created by I.H. on September 22, 2011

In most states it is illegal to purchase raw milk, to drive without a seatbelt, or to commit suicide.

It is time to clarify that the rights of the government extend to mandating warnings on risky behavior but not prohibitions in cases where a person decision will not cause direct harm to others. This would mean that it would remain legal to buy and sell raw milk and other traditional unpasturized foods so long as a food safety warning was in place, it would be legal to choose your personal level of safety gear when operating personal machinery, and a persons individual liberty would not be infringed should they choose to terminate their life.

Safety measures and requirements relating to workplace safety, public transportation, and for minors are appropriate, not general prohibition.
