This petition is created in the belief that boys deserve to be allowed to choose circumcision once they have reached maturity as defined by their state. That boys should not be subjected to circumcision or other genital modifications by their doctors, family members, or religious leaders without their adult consent. Currently, genital mutilation is only prohibited for females in our country, which is not satisfactory to the fourteenth amendment's equal protection of the law.
This process currently produces irreversible affects to a child who has no say in the matter. Circumcision should still be a legal option for valid medical issues such as phimosis.
