Binational same-sex couples have faced systemic discrimination that has caused many to make great financial, emotional and personal sacrifices. They have had their liberty and their pursuit of happiness squandered by Section 3 of DOMA, many for decades.
This petition asks that the federal government, upon the invalidation and/or repeal of DOMA through judicial or legislative processes, create a path for same-sex partners to be reunited or repatriated through an expedited process. While normal K-1, K-3, and other types of processes can take almost a year, there do exist options such as direct consular filing or a streamlined process for immediate post-DOMA same-sex petitions.
