Reparations for Afro-Americans
A New Impetus
The ravages of slavery and the racial structures that followed it have consigned African Americans to America's economic bottom. This is a thesis of the book, The Debt: What America owes to Blacks, Dutton, January 2000, written by Randall Robinson, former President of TransAfrica. Robinson's book has renewed interest in reparations to African Americans for centuries of imposed slavery and persecution.
Randall Robinson's positive attitude gains impetus from the rewards to other groups that obtained restitution and reparations for their years of forced labor and persecution in wartime Nazi Germany. Their successes can serve as a guide for an African American petition for reparations.
