The current cost of full-time attendance at "public" universities in the United States exceeds the salary of most available full-time work. It is now impossible for students to "pay their way" through college.
Students emerge from university enormously encumbered. American students are buried under tens of thousands of dollars of debt upon entering the workforce. Student debt stamps out risk-taking and innovation in this segment of the population - one vital to the continued prosperity of the United States.
1) Sponsor legislation allowing case-based bankruptcy filing on student debt.
2) Increase funding for the Department of Education.
3) Reset federal loan repayment rates to "inflation plus 1 percent".
4) Allow for the one-time forgiveness of up to $10,000 in federal student debt.
