America’s immigration policies should be based on what’s in the best interest of the nation and not by who is able to get by border security. We should actively recruit immigrants with high-tech skills, experience, and businesses to grow our economy in the Digital Age. We should prioritize those with science, technology, engineering, and math degrees particularly those who attended universities in the United States. The US government grants immigrants over 1 million green cards annually. Only 13% of these green cards were employment based, while 66% were family-based. With 1 in 6 Americans living in poverty, we cannot afford to add millions without a HS degree who will live in or near poverty for most of their lives. Instead of chain migration, we should recruit high-skilled immigrants.
