General aviation contributes $150 billion to our economy every year. It will continue to play a vital part in our economic growth in the future. For pilots that have acquired their wings, general aviation is a natural place to find employment to build up their flight hours. Between 2010 and 2020, the demand for pilots will increase (Dept. of Labor). Young students who want to go to independent flight schools are limited by financial difficulties. There are few alternatives when it comes to financing their dreams. They either have to pay-as-they go, which is time consuming, or take out personal loans. Having federal financial aid available would allow countless students achieve their goals. As a flight student myself, I know what it's like to be in those situations.
