This petition urges the Obama administration to address congress about the need to design and construct a prototype Liquid Fluoride Thorium Reactor (LFTR).
The potential benefits of the adoption of LFTR technology are enormous in the areas of environmental safety, public health, economic growth, and energy security and independence. LFTR technology addresses all of the concerns regarding current generation nuclear reactors such as fuel abundance, the safety of nuclear power facilities (even after a natural disaster), the high capital costs associated with the construction of new nuclear plants, and the threats posed by nuclear waste and proliferation.
A prototype reactor must be built to evaluate and inform the future implementation of this technology.
