In response to an August 2014 petition, "Mike Brown Law. Requires all state, county, and local police to wear a camera", Roy L. Austin, Jr., the Deputy Assistant to the President for the Office of Urban Affairs, Justice and Opportunity in the Domestic Policy Council, cited evidence that law enforcement using body-worn video technology documented "more positive" outcomes and provided "[n]ew opportunities for effective training."
Truly just and effective law enforcement is a basic Constitutional right. This petition asks the Obama Administration to allocate federal funds to all tiers of law enforcement to support the purchase of body-worn cameras and provide databases upon which to store and examine law enforcement encounters with the American public. Data will be publicly available.
