Medical research is extremely important in finding prevention, treatment, and cures. More funding needs to be allocated for congenital heart defects (CHDs). CHDs are underappreciated and research is severely underfunded. They are the most common birth defect, and the number one cause of birth defect related death.
CHDs kill twice as many children as all childhood cancers combined, yet childhood cancer receives five times more research funding than CHDs. Still with the limited amount of funding they do receive, over past 10 years CHD related deaths have decreased by 30%. Imagine what that number could be with a more fair share of funding.
