As has been reported in the Washington Post, the FCC is proposing a plan that would see the creation of a public wifi spectrum. Not only would this create opportunities for innovation, it would also allow for populations currently unserved by conventional ISPs to access the internet.
Unfortunately the powerful tele-com lobby has taken an interest in this proposal and is actively seeking to oppose it. It is imperative that the executive branch acknowledge the importance of creating a public wifi spectrum and support its creation with all available resources.
