How much stress and debt is put on working Americans during the holiday season? How many American children go without on Christmas? Why should Americans struggle to give gifts to their kids, to see loved ones, to pay their bills while the federal government holds onto their tax refunds for a few months more?
We ask that the federal tax code allow individual taxpayers who would file a 1040 or 1040EZ return the option to shift their federal tax year to from Nov 1 to Oct 31, so those interested could get their tax return before Dec 25.
Over 140 million Americans filed a 1040 return in 2009 (irs.gov). The hundreds of millions of dollars returned annually would be a boon to the Christmas shopping season, create jobs, lower credit card debt and make a Happier Holday Season for all Americans
