Allow abused (sexually, verbally or otherwise) to be given financial aid should they want to attend a higher institution

Created by M.S. on April 07, 2013

In the Federal Financial Aid Form currently (also known as the FAFSA) an abused child (whether sexually, verbally, mentally, emotionally, physically and otherwise) has either of two options. The first would be to get the financial information of the parents. Aid would be awarded based on the parent's financial status. The other option would be to get a dependency override which would basically allow the child to be declared independent by a financial advisor of that higher institution. I believe there should be more opportunities for children in this standing. The parents can be providing for the child but if there is abuse within the household that would counteract the money of the education provided the child should be declared independent and be given the funds necessary for education.
