Social security is bankrupt and heading toward an inevitable financial collapse. Our $16 trillion dollar debt has been expanding exponentially, regardless of who is in power. Washington has failed to demonstrate responsibility in managing taxes allocated to social security. The system has become a Ponzi scheme whose current payouts are dependent on contributions from future generations. The unborn whom were are undeniably taxing have no voice to reject these expenses. Many young adults today are skeptical that they will ever see any benefit from what they have paid into the system. Allow all citizens the choice to opt out of social security taxes and benefits, giving people the opportunity to take responsibility for their own future while decreasing US liabilities in the process.
