Mental Illnesses have a problem--many people, including doctors and insurance companies, do not consider them to be physical illnesses with physical treatment options.
This includes groups that should work together to help with cures and treatments. Neurologists do not always talk to psychiatrists, who do not always talk to psychologists and therapists. Many psychiatrists have the bad habit of throwing the most recent drugs at their patients and "seeing what sticks," rather than using genetic tests and other diagnostic tools available to help choose a correct drug or therapy with care. The same is true of each of the other groups. This is a step to acknowledge that these diseases have both mental and physical components and getting people to work together to find treatments and cures.
