Businesses have to show their financial stability in their financial statements, why should the government be exempt from this? It would be nice to see exactly where the money goes, and where it comes from. When we learned about the financial backing of the American government in school, we are taught that our taxes pay for things such as roads and national defense. I would like to see exact numbers, and specific assets of the government. Businesses get audited every day and no one thinks anything about it, but when was the last time the American government was audited, whether internally or externally? It would be nice to have completely translucent financial statements that the public could see.
