allow all persons, regardless of sexuality to donate blood.

Created by D.K. on January 12, 2013

The ban on males who have had sex with males since 1977 from donating blood is discriminatory and scientifically flawed. The transmission of HIV and other sexually communicated diseases that affect blood is equally probable for heterosexual intercourse as it is for homosexual intercourse. The need to supply blood for others has been and will continue to be a major health and human services issue. This denying individuals the opportunity to save the lives of others through blood donations is hypocritical, discriminatory, and foolish. As there are supposed to be rigorous tests to screen the blood supplies for disease and impurities, this practice is outdated.
