I am a gardener who loves to grow native plants and beneficial edibles. In my search for suitable plants for part of my garden, I stumbeled on bread seed poppies. Lovely colors, spring blooms...AND they're edible.
Sadly, it turns out it is illegal for me to grow these poppies to collect the seeds.
Nevertheless, many reputable companies in the US sell papaver somniferum seed to gardeners who are not junkies. For instance Renee's Garden and Burpees. But by growing these beautiful plants, the suppliers and gardeners are considered to be lawbreakers?
Why is is allowable to buy imported seeds but not grow our own poppy seeds--which would be free of preservatives, pesticides and herbicides?
Please amend the laws to allow gardeners to grow breadseed poppies legally.
