Allow atheists of Tennessee the right to hold civil office

Created by J.P. on January 14, 2014

We Petition to amend Article 9, section 2 of the Tennessee state constitution that reads "No person who denies the being of God, or a future state of rewards
and punishments, shall hold any office in the civil department of this state."
We feel that this statute violates The Establishment Clause of the First Amendment, which, by precedent set by Everson v. Board of Education, applies to all forms of government whether it be local, state, or federal
