We the people believe that BASE jumping should be a legal activity in our national parks.
BASE jumping is the act of jumping from tall structures (or cliff ledges in this case) with a specially designed parachute. The National Park Service has not issued BASE jumping permits since 1981. The reason for this was that BASE jumping was dangerous and its practitioners showed disregard for the environment.
Since then, improvements of BASE jumping rigs have made it a safer sport. Yes, some BASE jumpers will not be good stewards of the environment. But we don't punish all rock climbers every time a piece of trash is found on el cap. BASE jumping is and will probably remain a dangerous sport, but it is not the job of the government to regulate our livelihoods.
