Wild horses are an invasive species in the western US and the Bureau of Land Management must control the wild horse population by removing horses from the wild.
According to reports on Colorado Public radio, the Bureau of Land Management cannot find homes for most of these horses and currently spends $50 million per year warehousing 10,000 more of these animals than exist in the wild because the BLM is not allowed to otherwise dispose of these animals.
As with cattle in this country, some countries consider horses to be livestock which are slaughtered for human consumption, and saughterhouses which export to these countries exist in North America.
As a last resort The BLM should be permitted to sell the animals to these companies rather than warehousing them at such a high cost.
