Catholics are strong supporters of Democratic party values, such as social justice and serving the poor. However, the administration's failure to exempt Catholic institutions from offering health insurance plans which cover birth control, sterilization, and abortion-inducing drugs is governmental overreach, which violates the freedom of religion. Whatever one's personal views on birth control, the Catholic Church is speaking from the pulpit on this issue, encouraging Catholics to protest this measure. We must remember that Catholic values align with many of the president's initiatives and not alienate these people of faith and their leaders. Please protect the freedom of religious institutions to follow their own policies and redact this requirement.
