In 1917, more than 6,000 Filipinos enlisted in the US Army and in the US Navy to fight in World War I (One). After the war ended in 1918, the US passed the Act of May 9,1918
to allow "any alien who served in the armed forces" to be
Naturalized and become US citizens. But Filipinos and other Asians were excluded, allowing only "white and of African descent" to apply.
