Due to a steadily decreasing birth rate and advancing medical technologies that allow elderly people to live longer, many young people feel that they will never benefit from their contributions to Social Security.
Social security was introduced to help seniors who either did not plan ahead or could not afford to save for retirement. Many young people are now planning better for their retirement than their elders did, and it would be a big help if they could put more of their money towards a solid retirement fund instead of a flawed system that they feel they will never benefit from.
I propose that the government allow citizens age 25 and older to opt out of receiving Social Security benefits, and only have to pay a 1% Social Security tax instead of the 6.2% currently required.
