Citizens should be allowed the choice to invest in Social Security, not mandated. You should allow us to opt-out of paying into the system every paycheck if we wish. If a person opts-out, grant them a one-time payment with a minimum of 50% of what they have paid in over their lifetime, with the caveat that the money go straight into a retirement account of choice within the private industry. Social Security is not sustainable and for those of us under 40, our money is being thrown away every paycheck, as we will never see a dime of what we've put in. Keep half to cover costs of those near retirement, but allow the rest of us to start saving for ourselves. Allow us to opt-out and put our money somewhere where we will actually be able to use it come retirement age.
